A new charity with an old idea: love your neighbour
The Heart of Sunflowers Mission Ltd was established on 27 March 2025 in Narooma, New South Wales. Like a sunflower that turns its face to the light, we exist to turn towards people — to see them, to care for them and to lift them up.
Born out of a love for our local community and a heart for the wider world, our mission is to walk alongside Australians who are doing it tough, and to extend a hand to overseas communities and charities where we can.
We are a small but determined registered charity, deeply rooted in our place on the NSW South Coast — and intentionally inclusive of every person who walks through our doors.
We meet every person with kindness, patience and a willingness to listen — without judgement.
Every person we serve is treated with respect. We help in ways that protect dignity and self-worth.
Our community is open to every age, culture, ability, faith, gender identity and background.
We honour the Traditional Custodians of the land, and walk respectfully with First Nations people.
Care is more than words. We focus on real, tangible support — a hot meal, a listening ear, a hand up.
Like a sunflower turning to the sun, we lift our eyes to what is possible — for each person and for our community.
Our doors are open to anyone in our community who needs support, friendship or a place of welcome.
Walking respectfully alongside First Nations community members, families and Elders.
From early childhood through to youth aged 15 to under 25, plus the families that hold them.
Adults aged 25 to under 65, and seniors aged 65 and over, including isolated older Australians.
Financially disadvantaged people, those at risk of or experiencing homelessness, and the unemployed.
People with disability and people living with chronic illness — including those facing terminal illness.
Migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and the LGBTIQ+ community.
Honouring those who have served, and supporting them and their loved ones through life's challenges.
Where capacity allows, partnering with overseas communities and charities to extend our impact beyond Australia.
Anyone in the wider Australian community who is seeking connection, support or a place to belong.
Reaching out to individuals and families on the NSW South Coast — meeting people where they are and offering a hand.
Practical help for people experiencing homelessness, illness, hardship or isolation.
Creating space for people to be seen, heard and known — because relationship matters as much as resource.
Caring for our local community first, and contributing to overseas communities and charities as we are able.
